The all-new 2013 Nissan Altima has been awarded the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety‘s Top Safety Pick. The IIHS as it is better known is a non-profit organization funded by auto insurers that works to reduce the number of motor vehicle crashes and injuries associated with vehicles. Its role is to carry out research and produce ratings for vehicles and some consumer products such as baby car seats.
The 2013 Nissan Altima is being recognized for an excellent performance in all five of the passenger safety tests. It was already recently awarded a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but has now also scored well on all five categories consisting of front, side, rollover, rear, and small overlap frontal.
“Driver and passenger safety are top priorities for Nissan, which is why we make features like Safety Shield technologies available,” said Bob Yakushi , Nissan’s director of product safety. “The 2013 Nissan Altima is truly Nissan’s most innovative Altima ever, and the ‘Top Safety Pick Plus’ designation by IIHS reflects the engineering and design that have gone into this car to make it stand out in the class.”
Preparing for the Olympics is a tough route in life. Training from morning till night, eating only healthy foods, and being under the pressure of representing your ENTIRE country, but 6 time Olympic Gold Medalist Ryan Lochte has even taken it a step further. He has developed one of the most innovative versions of the backstroke swim. So needless to say Ryan is no stranger to living his life backwards, and that’s why Nissan has challenged him to try and make it through a coned course in the All-New 2013 Nissan Altima, backwards without knocking over a single cone.
The All-New 2013 Nissan Altima is a whole different family sedan compared to any other, even that of other versions of the Nissan Altima. Nissan created a much more efficient and lighter version of the Altima. To put that in perspective, the 2013 Nissan Altima reaches 100 mph, while only at 2,500 revolutions. Thats impressive. The reworked and heavily modified Continuously Variable Transmission is much to account for this. The 2013 Nissan Altima will come with the QR25DE 2.5L I4 that pushes out 182 HP and 180 LB.-Ft. of torque. It’s Front-Wheel Drive as usual but has an astonishing 0-60 time of only 7.1 seconds. And with all this power you still get the fuel economy of 27 City mpg and 38 Hwy mpg.
So now that we have a little information on the 2013 Nissan Altima that we are putting Ryan Lochte to the test in, lets see if he can handle the pressure of our challenge as well as he does the Olympics.
The first Nissan Altima rolled out of Smyrna back in 1992 as a 1993 model. Since then, more than 4.4 million have been produced. Nissan is calling this the “most innovative Altima yet” with new levels of ” innovation, fuel-efficiency, dynamic performance and premium style.”
To commemorate Altima’s start of production, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam joined Smyrna team members and Nissan leadership as the first all-new mid-size sedan rolled off the assembly line. Smyrna will serve as home to more “firsts” in the coming months, including welcoming production for the 100-percent-electric Nissan LEAF and the batteries that power it, the next-generation Nissan Pathfinder, and, in 2013, the next-generation Nissan Rogue.
The new 2013 Altima offers standard Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone System with Streaming Audio via Bluetooth. Also available are NissanConnect and NissanConnect Navigation with a suite of Bluetooth phone connectivity features, including hands-free text message integration, Pandora playback, real-time Google POI search and more; along with easy fill tire alert, and next-generation safety shield technologies, including blind spot warning, lane departure warning and moving object detection systems.
The Altima begins arriving at Nissan dealers nationwide in June with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (**MSRP) of $21,500.
