Halloween may be over. However, there are still several locations in West Virginia where you can get in touch with the paranormal. Here are 4 Haunted destinations in West Virginia.
A small town on the banks of the Ohio River, Point Pleasant wasn’t always so pleasant thanks to a mysterious creature called the Mothman. Standing over seven feet tall with glowing red eyes, the monster was reported to be seen flying over the town in the late 1960s.
The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum
When the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum opened its doors in 1864, it was one of the largest asylums in the country. However, overcrowded conditions caused it to be shut down in 1994. Nevertheless, some people say the patients never left!
West Virginia State Penitentiary
Once home to some of the most vicious criminals in the entire country, the West Virginia State Penitentiary in Moundsville, West Virginia was the location of several violent prison riots!
Harper’s Ferry was the location of one of the bloodiest chapters of American history: John Brown’s raid. There are legends that those who died during the event still call Harper’s Ferry their home.

Halloween is almost here and we want to make sure you and your children are set for safety when trick-or-treating! Trick-or-Treat is your kids favorite part of Halloween, except for their costume of course! Below are some great tips for Halloween and trick-or-treat night!
Walk Safely – When you cross the street, make sure you cross at corners and use traffic signals and sidewalks if they are there. Always look left and right before crossing the road! If there is a sidewalk or path, make sure you use that instead of walking in the street. This will keep you and your children safe from drivers.
Go with an Adult – Children under the age of 12 should not be alone at night without an adult. If your child is mature enough to go out without an adult, have them trick-or-treat in a group with friends.
Keep Costumes Safe – If possible decorate their costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers so that drivers can see them. Choose face paint and makeup over masks so that your kid’s vision is not obstructed. Make sure that the costumes fit them so they don’t trip and fall.
Drive Safely! – Slow down and be especially alert during prime trick-or-treat hours. Kids are excited on Halloween and can be unpredictable. Take extra time to look for kids at intersections and on curbs.
Those are just some great tips for trick-or-treat and Halloween! Be safe this Halloween!

With gas prices climbing this summer, we wanted to share with you some great tips on saving your fuel!
Avoid High Speeds – When your speed increases, your aerodynamic drag decreases. Therefore driving at 62 mpg vs. 75 mph can reduce fuel consumption up to 15%.
Do Not Accelerate or Brake Hard – If you anticipate the traffic and apply a slow steady brake or acceleration, fuel economy can increase by as much as 20%!
Keep Tires Inflated Properly – Keep your tires inflated at the recommended level by Nissan, or other vehicle manufacturer. If a tire is under inflated by 2 PSI it can increase fuel consumption by 1%.
Use the A/C Sparingly – When you turn on the A/C it puts extra work on the engine forcing your car to use about 20% more fuel than normal.
Keep Windows Closed – When you’re driving on the highway with your windows open, it increases the drag on the vehicle and increases your fuel consumption.
Service Vehicle Regularly – Keeping your Nissan with proper maintenance helps avoid poor fuel economy by replacing old air filters, spark plugs or low fluid levels.
Use Cruise Control – If you maintain a constant speed over longer distances, it will help save on fuel.
Avoid Heavy Loads – The sand bags you put in your trunk or truck bed for winter should be removed for spring and summer. Try to pack lightly for long road trips; I know, easier said than done.
Avoid Long Idles – If you think you are going to be stopped longer than a minute, like in line at a fast food restaurant, turn of the car. Restarting the car actually uses less fuel than letting it idle for an extended time.
Purchase a Fuel Efficient Vehicle – When purchasing a new vehicle make sure that the vehicle’s rated fuel efficiency is what you are looking for. Usually a small vehicle with manual transmission will provide you with great fuel economy!
There are some helpful tips and tricks on how to pay less at the pump!
Nissan North America Inc. announced an aver price reduction of $2,191 U.S. for the 2013 Nissan Xterra. The popular Xterra PRO-4X grade features a starting price of $29,440 which has a $1,200 price reduction compared to the 2012 PRO-4X. This drop happens even despite the addition of standard NissanConnectSM with Navigation system, automatic on/off headlights, RearView Monitor and a revised interior look.
Nissan decided to cut the price in order to keep the Xterra’s strong sales momentum. In addition to the PRO-4X, Xterra X grades are now reduced by $2,540, Xterra S grades by $2,620 and the Xterra PRO-4X grades by $1,200. The Xterra has some enhancements which includes the addition of two new exterior colors, Glacier White and Cayenne Red.
The Nissan Xterra is adventure ready and combines power, utility, value and authenticity. The Xterra has a unique “multi-flex” interior that provides an abundance of useable space, storage and convenience features.
As a readers warning, do not try this at home. But recently Drift Alliance racers Ryan Tuerck and Chris Forsberg decided to challenge each other in a typical mans fashion to a little game of horse. But this time they were spelling “DRIFT”. The challenges were simple. One runs through a challenge, if one did better than the other the the loser got a letter spelling DRIFT until the entire word was spelled. Both drivers, sporting Nissan 240SX drift cars took on challenges such as “the barrel touch”, where you would drift and only allow the rear of the 240SX to touch a barrel, and the one the touched it with the least amount of car wins. The there is the liquid challenge, where each driver had a liquid in a container and had to complete a drift course while holding the container, the one with the most liquid at the end wins.
Through these comical and entertaining challenges only won can become the victor of the “DRIFT” games, but with both sporting the 240SX it would seem it would be even across the board. Guess you’ll have to watch the video below to find out.
Lewis Nissan hosted a Business After Hours event offered by the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce earlier this month to showcase our new showroom and added amenities the Nissan dealership now offers.
“We were a Chevy dealer for years, but now Nissan has stepped in and become our flagship franchise and we have just completed this new Nissan showroom, so we wanted to host a Business After Hours here to get people to come out and see our new showroom,” stated our very own Sarah Abrams, Public Relations Manager.
Amenities in the spacious facility include flat screen televisions in a waiting room, a children’s play area, a drive-through weather-free service write-up area and 45 service bays. The Nissan Dealership is pet friendly and offers free popcorn and coffee to guests throughout the day.
This month’s event boasted food and beverages from Pasquale’s, along with representatives from NAPA Auto Part; United States Marine Corps, who were hosting a pull-up competition; and Elevation Sports.
This is the second Business After Hours in the month of May, and according to Joe Guffy, information coordinator for BRCCC; a third will take place May 31 at Burning Rock, marking the first time in the history of BRCCC hosts three After Hours events in one month.
Electric Vehicles (EVs) are becoming more of a common sight worldwide. Nissan has already sold 28,000 LEAFs worldwide, and there are so many Nissan LEAF owners in the California area that they have started their own club.
In our neck of the woods, here in West Virginia, the 2012 Nissan LEAF is still fresh in our minds. Lewis Nissan took delivery of one of the first Nissan LEAFs just a last month. But so far, the LEAF has received some great attention from our communities. Maybe this time next year, West Virginia will have their own LEAF club? 🙂
This week, we were presented with not one, but TWO, Nissan Customer Satisfaction Awards! Both awards showcase our commitment to our customers and our business. We are very excited to be the first dealership in West Virginia to offer the exciting Nissan LEAF to our customers.
The Nissan LEAF is a 100% pure electric vehicle (EV), which can travel up to 100 miles on a single charge. The LEAF has already been awarded several accolades for its performance engine, environmentally-friendly features, and overall safety.
According to a recent study by Nissan and the EPA, “The Nissan LEAF™ has been tested under the EPA Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule, a laboratory test commonly called the LA4 test cycle, which represents city driving conditions. Top speed is 56.7 mph and average speed is 19.59 mph. Ambient temperature can vary from 68 – 86 degrees. Climate control is off. The Nissan LEAF™ easily achieved 100 miles.”
Currently, there are four charging stations in Beckley and three at The Greenbrier resort, but with the increasing popularity of EVs and high gas prices, West Virginia could see up to 100 additional chargers throughout the state at fast food and hotel locations within the next three years.
