Nissan’s will have iTunes Radio

Last week Apple released its newest update, iOS7. With this update came a whole new plethora of features for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod. One of the newest features is iTunes Radio. In order to use it to its full capabilities, you’ll need a Nissan.

Nissan announced that it will serve as the exclusive automotive advertising partner for the launch of Apple’s iTunes Radio. The Nissan vehicles to be highlighted with the iTunes Radio first are the 2014 Nissan Rogue compact SUV, the all-new 2014 Versa Note and the hot-selling LEAF electric vehicle.

Jon Brancheau, vice president, Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc., said “We see iTunes Radio as an integral part of our new vehicle launches and ‘big moments’, riding the wave of interest and usage of this exciting new service to maximize exposure of Nissan’s new models. We’re also adding iAd on iTunes Radio as a critical platform in support of ongoing campaigns, such as our college football and Heisman Trophy Tour initiatives. It’s a great way for Nissan to reach the right audiences in the right markets.”

Brancheau went on to say “Nissan, as a brand also known for innovation, is proud to support iTunes Radio from the very beginning, with content relevant to consumers’ interests. We see iTunes Radio being a huge success and we look forward to delivering amazing brand experiences to this exciting new audience.”

Nissan Announces LEAF into CPO Program

It’s no surprise that the demand for electric cars is continuing to grow among consumers in the United States. Nissan has decided to add the all-electric LEAF to its Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles program. Starting this month, Certified Pre-Owned Nissan LEAF vehicles will be backed by Nissan to provide years of performance and quality at a great value. Nissan is extending the EV system and powertrain warranty coverage to seven years or 100,000 miles in addition to the battery warranty’s that are already in place.

2013 Nissan LEAFDirector of Electric Vehicle Sales and Marketing for Nissan, Erik Gottfried, said “As more Nissan LEAF vehicles enter the used car market, we know it’s important for Nissan to provide the second owners the same confidence in the car that the original owner enjoyed. Adding LEAF to the Nissan Certified Pre-Owned program is a natural next step to strengthen the position of LEAF as the world’s No. 1 all-electric car for the mass market.”

Nissan Certified Pre-Owned vehicles have other benefits such as trip interruption coverage, car rental reimbursement, a no-cost three-month subscription to Sirius-XM Satellite Radio, CARFAX Vehicle History Report with 90-day CARFAX Buyback Guarantee and comprehensive quality assurance vehicle inspection. There are some requirements for a LEAF to qualify for the program, such as less than 60,000 miles. Nissan thinks adding the LEAF to the CPO program will allow more people to experience an EV for themselves.

Nissan is inspired by Objects when designing Cars

It’s not unusual at Nissan to define and maintain design intention for a new vehicle with an array of 3-D objects. Some of the objects designers have been inspired by in the past include a bulldog with sunglasses, a shark fin, a motorcycle tank and a windmill.

Francois Farion, senior manager, Nissan color and design strategy, said “Objects for us designers are very important. They allow us to communicate very well our design intention and to keep that intention all along the project.”

The first object Farion talks about is a shark fin. One of the designers watched an in-depth documentary on sharks. The designer wanted to take the 370Z and apply the sleek shape of the shark fin going into the water to the sports car going through the air. Next is the bulldog with sunglasses. The idea was for the Cube to have an unusual shape. They took the Cube and made it very planted like a bulldog’s stance and the front reminded them of sunshades.  The windmills are for the project Resonance which was supposed to convey the highest technology available. They wanted to use shapes that would really express fluidity and a modern style. Lastly is the motorcycle tank which expresses the inside of the Juke. The designers wanted to have an interior that was different than others, specifically the instrument panel. They took the center console and added the body color and added a shape so that it was comfortable to rest your knee on it. With this interior, it gives the car more character.

Farion went on to say “The objects – we have to look for them and find them everywhere. To work like this in 3-D, gathering objects and putting them together in a meaningful way, is really unique to Nissan as far as I know.”
