With the year coming to a close, and because we represent a Nissan dealership, we figured this would be an appropriate time to write about the most memorable Nissan moments of 2013. There were quite a few significant achievements to pick from, but we’ve managed to boil it down to the three we believe deserved to be at the top. So here goes.
The Nissan LEAF success story. Originally released in 2011, the Nissan LEAF has already sold more units in 2013 than in 2011 and 2012 combined, enjoying incredible leaps in popularity month after month. This was made possible by ramping up its production and accessibility by localizing production in Smyrna, Tennessee. Now, there are over 40,000 LEAFs traveling American roads and saving millions in would-be gas money.
Taxi of Tomorrow becomes Taxi of Today. After years of preparation and legal roadblocks, the Nissan NV200 Taxi finally hit the streets of Manhattan at the JFK International Airport in October 2013. Throughout the coming months and years, the NV200 will be bringing an unprecedented amount of efficiency and cleanliness to the New York cityscape.
New November sales record. After experiencing significant sales gains throughout the year, Nissan’s sales success culminated last month as it set a new all-time U.S. sales record with a 10.7% increase over last year’s sales.
All in all, Nissan is looking better than ever. Which is why we hope to see you at Lewis Nissan!
Nissan is currently sending LEAF-shaped air fresheners to select electric vehicle enthusiasts as well as Nissan LEAF owners and Nissan employees in Europe as a token of their appreciation. The air fresheners are a very symbolic thank you to these individuals for helping bring the dream of a zero-emissions world to reality. The fresheners offer people a sniff of the future, literally, as they are perfumed with Nissan’s new “future scent.”
The “Scent of the Future” was commissioned to Dr. George Dodd, Master Perfumer and Aroma Academy Scientist, by Nissan in Europe. Dodd’s finished scent contains notes of “cut green grass, myrtle oil, natural orange” and even something called the “‘light as air’ molecule.” The scent seeks to awake nostalgia in those who smell it, nostalgia, oddly yet fittingly enough, for a future upon which we are still waiting to blossom.
The scent is Nissan’s latest way to show their extreme commitment to turning a zero-emissions planet from a distant daydream into a warm and authentic reality. The air fresheners give us a tiny tease of how wonderful such a world would be, and encourage us at Lewis Nissan to work harder than ever to do our part for that future.
Here in West Virginia, the winters can be pretty harsh. Knowing how to drive safely in the winter weather is an absolute necessity. Here are a few winter driving tips to keep you on the road.
Check your tires. Make sure your tires have adequate depth and you may want to consider switching to snow tires since our roads are regularly covered in snow.
Check your windshield wipers. Being able to see is paramount to driving safely. If your windshield wipers can’t clear the snow and ice off your windshield, you’ll be stopped in your tracks. Think about using wiper blades specifically designed for snow. Also apply a water-shedding material to the outside of your window to help keep it clear and switch to anti-icing washer fluid.
Use the air conditioner. Air conditioning is not just for cooling down your car. It also removes moisture from the air and helps keep your windshield clear. You can still set the temperature to “warm.”
Use you brakes. When roads are wet or snowy, brake earlier and keep more space between you and the car in front of you. If you hit a slick spot and start to skid, stomp on your brakes (as long as you have anti-lock brakes) and look and steer in the direction you want to go.
If you need any help getting your car ready for the winter, give our friendly service department here at Lewis Nissan a call and we’ll get you all set. Make sure you pass on these winter driving tips to your family and friends!
Nissan set a new all-time November U.S. sales record with 106,528 total deliveries, a 10.7% increase over last year’s total of 96,197. This also marked a new November record for both the Nissan brand and the Infiniti brand, which delivered 93,376 and 13,152 vehicles, respectively. November was the best November for Nissan in awhile.
So far in 2013, Nissan Division has sold over a million vehicles, up 10.7% compared to the first eleven months of last year and already surpassing the total amount sold in 2012.
Highlighting the sales record were the Nissan Altima, LEAF, Sentra, and Frontier. The Altima is never short on demand and set a new personal record by selling 24,604 models this November, up 21.2% compared to last year. The LEAF is still recognized as the best small electric vehicle on the market, with a new record of 2,003 sales and continuing its streak of setting new monthly records each month since March, when the new model was launched.
The Nissan Sentra is finally matching consumer demand and was up an incredible 62.5% this month, followed closely by the Frontier which was also up 54.6%.
Nissan must be doing something right, as the increasing sales never seem to end. Come by Lewis Nissan to check out their award-winning vehicle for yourself.
