Summer Car Maintenance Tips

Keeping your car in good shape throughout summer is just as important as during the winter, since hot weather can have a big impact on your car’s fluids, tires, and engine. Follow these summer car maintenance tips and your summer will be smooth sailing!

Summer Car MaintenanceInspect your tires fairly regularly, about once every two weeks. Check the tread and the tire pressure, as tires might become overinflated during the summer, and make sure there are no bulges or cracks in the tire.

Get your oil and oil filter changed, or do it at home if you know how. Clean motor oil will keep your vehicle running more smoothly. You should also check the coolant levels and consider whether it might be time to do a coolant flush. Coolant lasts much longer than motor oil, though, so it may not be necessary.

Check your belts and hoses for leaks, cracks, and fraying, and measure the width of your brake pads to see if they need to be replaced. Finally, keep your battery clean. Disconnect the battery cables and wipe the terminals down. This will keep the battery from overcharging.

Nissan Titan Pickup Targets Untapped Niche in Market

The Nissan Titan pickup truck is targeting an “in-between” niche in its segment, giving it an edge over the big players in the industry such as Ford and Chevy. This special niche speaks specifically to drivers who like to have a big, powerful truck without having more power than they’d ever use, or drivers who bought a larger truck and miss the friendly handling and maneuverability of a smaller one. No matter the case, the Titan taps into that in between space to attract buyers.

Nissan Titan pickupInstead of focusing on power like other pickups – though the Titan certainly doesn’t compromise power in any way  – the engineers behind the Nissan Titan poured their efforts into ensuring the truck provides consumers with a better driving experience than they’ve ever known in a truck of its size. Particularly large hydraulic cab mounts lessen the effect of road shock. In addition, the tires have been specially tuned to give a smoother ride.

The Nissan Titan pickup sits at a towing capacity of about 6,000 lbs., which Nissan representatives say also fits neatly into that in-between niche between a lighter duty pickup and a bigger, more powerful truck. The Titan was also tested on ranchers in Texas in the early stages of development to ensure consumer satisfaction.

4 Haunted Destinations in West Virginia

Halloween may be over. However, there are still several locations in West Virginia where you can get in touch with the paranormal. Here are 4 Haunted destinations in West Virginia.

Point Pleasant

A small town on the banks of the Ohio River, Point Pleasant wasn’t always so pleasant thanks to a mysterious creature called the Mothman. Standing over seven feet tall with glowing red eyes, the monster was reported to be seen flying over the town in the late 1960s.

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

When the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum opened its doors in 1864, it was one of the largest asylums in the country. However, overcrowded conditions caused it to be shut down in 1994. Nevertheless, some people say the patients never left!

West Virginia State Penitentiary

Once home to some of the most vicious criminals in the entire country, the West Virginia State Penitentiary in Moundsville, West Virginia was the location of several violent prison riots!

Harper’s Ferry

Harper’s Ferry was the location of one of the bloodiest chapters of American history: John Brown’s raid. There are legends that those who died during the event still call Harper’s Ferry their home.

Kiplinger’s Calls 2015 Nissan Murano ‘Best New/Redesigned Midsize Crossover’

Every year, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance publishes its 2015 Best Value Awards. This year, the publication has awarded the 2015 Nissan Murano with the award for “Best New/Redesigned Midsize Crossover.” To qualify for the title of “Best New/Redesigned Midsize Crossover,” the vehicle must be fully redesigned or all-new, not just updated.

2015 Nissan Murano - Best New/Redesigned Midsize CrossoverTo come to its findings, Kiplinger’s evaluates vehicles based on their driving impressions, performance, price, safety, resale value, fuel economy, and overall value. The top performers are then featured in their annual buying guide, Deals on New Wheels—a top honor for the chosen vehicles. The publication, which is full of helpful information for new car shoppers, will hit newsstands on February 10th.

Kiplinger’s notes that the Murano takes the title of “Best New/Redesigned Midsize Crossover” thanks in-part to its excellent fuel economy. Rated at 28 mpg highway, the Murano ranks 20% higher than its 2014 counterpart in both the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models.

Here at Lewis Nissan, we encourage you to stop by our showroom and see for yourself why the redesigned 2015 Nissan Murano is this year’s “Best New/Redesigned Midsize Crossover”!

Best-Selling Altima Ups the Ante for 2015

2014 Nissan AltimaNissan has announced some exciting changes to the Altima for 2015. Several trims will feature improved standard features, impressive technology, and a variety of options in an effort to make one of Nissan’s best-selling cars, even better.

The Altima’s top two V-6 trim levels will now come standard with NissanConnect infotainment system which features navigation and apps, and driver assist safety technology including blind spot warning, moving object detection and lane departure warning.

The mid-level 2.5 and 3.5 SV models will see a new 8-way power driver’s seat, and in an effort to improve fuel economy, the 3.5-liter V-6 Altimas have been tweaked for a one mile-per-gallon increase in fuel economy ratings, now getting 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined.

Another small, but welcomed update is the black carpeting and lower side trim that now comes with the beige interiors. The contrasting new interior not only appears sleeker, but conveniently hides dirt that inevitably makes its way to the floor mats.

Along with these updates come with a bit of a price jump across all trim levels (except the Altima 2.5 S, which dropped in price). The jump is minimal compared to the features gained, and we think the updates are well worth the price.

Nissan Sport Sedan Wins Best Concept at NAIAS From Autoweek

When Nissan unveiled their Sport Sedan Concept at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, it took our breaths away with a distinctive design (including the flow-over continuation of Nissan’s V-Motion grille theme and unique boomerang headlight design), a 3.5-liter V6 engine that can roar like a fearsome beast (more than 300 horsepower, to be precise), and an impossible-to-miss “Strad Amber” paint scheme.  Now, Autoweek Magazine has recognized the Nissan Sport Sedan Concept as the “Best Concept” at NAIAS, giving it the edge over the Kia Stinger and Toyota FT-1.

“The name basically tells you what it is,” starts Autoweek’s Wes Reynal.  “Nissan officials confirmed the Sports Sedan Concept is the basis for a new Maxima due in 2016. The hot-looking sedan also gives a clear look at Nissan’s design themes for the next several years, including the flow-over ‘V-Motion’ grille, boomerang light clusters and sharply creased character lines across the flanks. All are intended, Nissan says, to ‘put some emotion into the side view.’”

Autoweek chooses annual winners in the Best in Show, Most Significant, Most Fun, and Best Concept categories on the heels of the major presentations at the Detroit Auto Show.  Given the Nissan Sport Sedan Concept’s win in the Best Concept field, it’s likely that the intention to instill emotion into the side profile was a success for the automaker and its designers.

While there is not much likelihood that a production version of the Nissan Sport Sedan Concept will move forward, the prospect of it heavily influencing an upcoming Maxima is like music to our ears.  (Speaking of music to our ears: the “Strad Amber” color was inspired by violins and created by applying an orange coat of paint over a golden base; now you know.)

As more details of the upcoming Maxima emerge, we here at Lewis Nissan will keep you in the know.  Until then, we are more than happy to bask in the success of the Nissan Sport Sedan Concept and its Best Concept award victory.

The all-new 2013 Nissan Altima receives IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus award

The all-new 2013 Nissan Altima has been awarded the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety‘s Top Safety Pick. The IIHS as it is better known is a non-profit organization funded by auto insurers that works to reduce the number of motor vehicle crashes and injuries associated with vehicles. Its role is to carry out research and produce ratings for vehicles and some consumer products such as baby car seats.

The 2013 Nissan Altima is being recognized for an excellent performance in all five of the passenger safety tests. It was already recently awarded a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but has now also scored well on all five categories consisting of front, side, rollover, rear, and small overlap frontal.

“Driver and passenger safety are top priorities for Nissan, which is why we make features like Safety Shield technologies available,” said Bob Yakushi , Nissan’s director of product safety. “The 2013 Nissan Altima is truly Nissan’s most innovative Altima ever, and the ‘Top Safety Pick Plus’ designation by IIHS reflects the engineering and design that have gone into this car to make it stand out in the class.”
