Most cars get a slight refresh each year, even if they aren’t entering a new generation, but many of these improved vehicles still get a small price hike due to the inclusion of new tech and features for the new year. However, the new Nissan Sentra for 2016 just received a number of brand-new features, as well as a tweaked exterior design, and brand representatives have announced this 2016 model will not be more expensive than the previous one.
Aside from the new styling, the majority of the Sentra’s new features are available smart safety systems. Rear cross traffic alert, which detects other cars while backing up, and blind-spot monitoring are brand new to the Nissan Sentra’s repertoire, boosting the compact sedan’s safety score. Buyers can get these new features by adding on the new driver’s assist package, which is an additional $1,020 and includes integrated navigation.
The new Nissan Sentra is an attractive option to budgeting buyers who find the standard Sentra’s $17,650 price tag appealing. Additionally, the new Nissan Sentra helps drivers save on gas as well with a 40 mpg highway fuel rating according to the EPA. Because of the base Sentra’s low price, add-ons such as the driver’s assist package are significantly less costly and easier to obtain.

After a bit of a disappointing safety rating in 2013 for the Sentra, Nissan amped up the features and focused on creating an all-around safer lineup. And as they say, hard work does indeed pay off. The new 2015 Nissan Sentra earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
According to the IIHS, the most significant improvements were made to the door sill, A-pillar, and front structure which put the test dummy at a lower risk of injury.
In order to score a Top Safety Pick Rating, a car has to earn good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint test, and a good or acceptable rating in the small overlap front test. The small overlap front test was created in 2012 and added as a qualifying component.

When it comes to doing a refresh on new models, every carmaker walks a tightrope. How do you make improvements while at the same time maintaining those qualities that fans and enthusiasts expect and appreciate? Nissan is planning a refresh of their Sentra and Altima lines and it’s clear from comments by Shiro Nakamura, Nissan’s design chief, that the Japanese carmaker plans to be very careful about the process.
The refresh for these two models will take a page from the Nissan Murano and Nissan Maxima. Nakamura says that the “very futuristic and strong statements” that these cars exude will lend the same attractive qualities to the Sentra and Altima.
Both models, the Nissan Sentra and the Nissan Altima, have been called “plain-looking” by journalists. But sales are remarkably strong, so Nissan has to be doing something right. Right? Nakamura says the next generation will be “sporty” but still roomy and “affordable and practical.” Now that’s balance!
We at Lewis Nissan are looking forward to these new changes. Until they arrive, stop by and check out Nissan’s great current models!
